Impulse Radio UWB Transceiver of the IHP has been
demonstrated at ICT Mobile Summit in Stockholm (Sweden)
on June 12th, 2008
IHP has successfully finished its engagement in the Integrated Project PULSERS (Phase II), partly funded by the European Commission (Framework 6). Together with 39 well-known companies and research institutions the IHP was involved in investigations of the challenges and possibilities of the Ultra-wide Band (UWB) technique. Potential applications are wireless very high data rate (VHDR) communication above 1 Gbit/sec as well as precise indoor localization with decimeter accuracy.
The UWB group of the IHP was involved in the work package WP3b dealing the development of an impulse radio UWB system for wireless sensor networks especially suited for industrial and logistics applications. The IHP has been responsible for the entire RF subsystem. Within the past 2.5 years a two-chipset UWB transceiver was designed and fabricated in IHP. In close collaboration with our partners IMST, Sennheiser electronics, and EADS this transceiver was integrated in a demonstration platform.
At the ICT Mobile Summit in Stockholm on June 12th the demonstrator has been presented for the first time in public. It could successfully show wireless data communication via impulse radio UWB on an exhibition boost. The demonstration stand of the PULSERS II project (including additional demonstration platforms of other work packages) was awarded with the “ICT-MobileSummit Best Demonstration Stand 2008” prize.
