International group of scientists met at IHP to coordinate future common activities in the field of Germanium surface science.

On 24th September 2012, an international group of scientists from Poland (Poznań University of Technology (PUT) and University of Wroclaw), England (University College London (UCL) at London Centre of Nanotechnology) and Italy (University Roma Tre) met at IHP to coordinate future common activities in the field of Germanium surface science, covering  experimental as well as theoretical aspects.

Central idea is to establish an atomic scale understanding of Germanium materials science (metal contact formation, interface science etc.) for future applications in Silicon microelectronics by the use of Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) techniques. IHP's SPM lab will be in the center of this joint research activity where special attention will also be devoted to education and teaching aspects of young students (B.Sc, M.Sc., PhD and PostDoc) from the various member laboratories. Certainly, the network also aims to set a basis for future acquisition of third party funding, especially from European Union.
