Microelectronics for Society:

"More than Moore" materials research for functionalized Silicon technologies

IHP´s materials research department is strongly devoted to the integration of innovative "More than Moore" modules into Silicon microelectronics technologies. The goal is to achieve a high level of system integration for functionalized Silicon circuits so that the potential of modern Silicon technologies can directly address challenges in society.

The success of this approach strongly depends on a close collaboration between the various IHP departments, including Technology, Circuit as well as System Design. In addition, the materials research department is strongly interconnected with leading research groups worldwide to identify at an early level promising materials science and device approaches.

The basis for our "More than Moore" materials research work is given by IHP´s state-of-the-art infrastructure, including modern tools for thin film growth as well as processing and characterization. To overcome limits of laboratory equipment for materials science on the nano-scale, IHP´s materials scientists are strong users of modern 3rd generation synchrotron sources in Europe.

Most importantly, IHP´s materials research department is very active on education and teaching of young students as well as promoting young scientists at an early level of their career. Based on cooperation contracts and agreements, IHP scientists embark to give lectures at various Universities in the Berlin-Brandenburg area and active collaborations and student exchange programs exist with Universities especially in Poland. Please feel free at any time to contact us for opportunities to carry out B.Sc. and M.Sc. as well as PhD studies on materials research in our department.

About 40 persons, including secretary, technicians, B.Sc., M.Sc. and PhD students as well as PostDocs and senior scientists, are typically active in our department to cover these education and research activities.

We are always open for new ideas and you are welcome to contact us!
