Dr. Costanza Lucia Manganelli started at Materials Research Department

Dr. Costanza Lucia Manganelli, who recently successfully defended her PhD in Photonic Technologies at the “Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna” in Pisa under the guidance of Fabrizio Di Pasquale, joins Materials Research Department of IHP – Innovations for High Performance Microelectronics on the basis of a Leibniz-DAAD grant. During one year she will carry out in close collaboration with scientists from Materials and Technology Department state-of-the-art theoretical investigations on the potential use of strained Germanium microstructures as active gain medium for future Si CMOS compatible laser applications. Under the guidance of Prof. Giovanni Capellini, the unique selling point of the project is to correlate predictive theoretical insights with laser diode processing in IHP´s cleanroom facility.
The “Leibniz-DAAD Research Fellowship” is a program which the Leibniz Association and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offer to excellent young scientists after a competitive selection procedure. Excellent post-docs from all over the world, who have completed their doctorates in the last two years, get the possibility to live and work in Germany. “The Leibniz-DAAD Research Fellowship ist an excellent platform to develop my own research projects and ideas at a state of the art research institute like IHP”, says Costanza. Leibniz Institutes conduct research in the following areas: Humanities and Education, Economics, Social and Spatial Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Natural and Engineering Sciences, and Environmental Sciences.

The building and the infrastructure of the IHP were funded by the European Regional Development Fund of the European Union, funds of the Federal Government and also funds of the Federal State of Brandenburg.
