Flexible and miniaturized radar modules for autonomous flying vehicles, robotics and industrial applications.
HomiRadar
Objective
The main objective of this project is to develop a compact chip-set for a radar operating in the 122 GHz ISM band. This includes the design and realization of off- and on-chip antennas. The target here is to provide SMD compatible radar modules without HF connections, offering higher flexibility in several applications such as robotics and autonomous flying vehicles.
IHP's Contribution
IHP task is to design the 122GHz SoC including the transceiver front-end, mm-wave signal generation, mm-wave built-in self-test (BIST), etc. This chip-set will be fabricated in IHP’s 130 nm SiGe BiCMOS technology. In addition, IHP is developing on-chip antenna arrays as part of the transceiver. On the one hand, the target here is to provide higher output power and to offer beam-steering functionalities. On the other hand, thanks to the on-chip antennas, no additional HF-connection is needed between the front-end circuits and the antennas, which further simplifies the realization and packaging of the module
